Chicken & Dumplings

Ingredients:

  • 1 Family-Size Can of Cream of Chicken Soup
  • 1 Can Uncooked Grands Biscuits
  • 1 Whole Chicken with Giblets or 3-4 Skinned Chicken Breasts
  • 2 Cups Water
  • 1/3 Stick Butter
  • Salt & Pepper

Equipment:

  • Deep Crock-Pot with Lid
  • Regular Soup Pan
  • Stove
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Water
  • Dish-washing Soap or Antibacterial Hand Soap
  • Lots of Paper Towels
  • Ceramic Plate
  • Strainer

Pre-Preparation:

  1. Lay out all ingredients/equipment 15 minutes prior to cooking/baking.
  2. If your chicken is frozen, place the chicken in the refrigerator to thaw overnight.
  3. Line your ceramic plate with a pile of paper towels and set aside.
  4. Clean out chicken of giblets, rinse with cold water THOROUGHLY, place on the paper towel lined plate and pat dry THOROUGHLY with paper towels.

Directions:

  1. Place chicken in crock-pot.
  2. Fill crock-pot about half way up with water or until chicken is almost covered.
  3. Place crock-pot on high for about 6 hours with salt and pepper or until chicken is tender. Chicken will be falling apart and off the bone when done.
  4. Once chicken is done, remove chicken from crock-pot, draining broth and juices back into crock-pot to be used in dumplings and set chicken aside temporarily.
  5. Strain the broth and juices into your soup pan to make sure you don't get any pieces of chicken in your broth.
  6. Heat pot of broth and butter on stove until your broth comes to a full raging boil.
  7. While you wait go ahead and open your can of biscuits. and set them near your broth pot.
  8. Once your broth reaches that raging boil, pinch off your biscuits and drop the pinches off into the pot . REMEMBERING to stir often or the dumplings will stick.
  9. If your broth starts to slow its boil, back off on the addition of dough and stir till the broth begins to boil again.
  10. Once all your dough has been added stir the broth and dumplings and cook for about 15-20 minutes or until they start looking like dumplings.
  11. Once your dumplings are done, remove them from the heat and set aside temporarily.
  12. Pick the chicken off the bone and drop into the crock-pot until all of it has been added.
  13. Then add in your dumplings to the chicken in the crock-pot and your soup and stir together.
  14. If your chicken and dumplings looks a little too thick, add in some chicken broth until you get it the consistency you want,
  15. Then heat on low for about 30 minutes to 1 hour or until thoroughly hot.
  16. Serve and enjoy.
